Seed stitch on a knitting loom

The seed stitch is a combination of the knit stitch and the purl stitch. It looks the same on the front and on the back, so it can be used for double sided projects like a scarf. This stitch is not very flexible and it holds its form very well. In this article and the video below I will explain how to do the seed stitch on a knitting loom.

The seed stitch is made by a combination of the knit stitch and the purl stitch. There are three ways to do the knit stitch on a knitting loom. For the seed stitch I use the true knit stitch. In the video below I will explain how to do the true knit stitch on a knitting loom.

Seed stitch pattern

For the seed stitch you can cast on with any cast on stitch you like. Cast on a multiple of 2 stitches. This means the number of stitches you cast on can be divided by the number 2. Once your knitwork is finished you can also cast off with any stitch you like.

In row one start knitting a true knit stitch, then a purl stitch, a knit stitch and so on untill the end of the row. If you have cast on an even number of stitches you will end your first row with a purl stitch.

If you have ended your first row with a purl stitch start the second row with a knit stitch. Then a purl stitch, a knit stitch and so on. So on top of every knit stitch, you knit a purl stitch in the next row. For every purl stitch you knit a knit stitch in the next row.

Repeat rows 1 and 2.
