The double rib stitch is a combination of the knit stitch and the purl stitch. It’s a variation on the normal rib stitch. The double rib stitch is very flexible and looks the same on the front and on the back. It can be used for collars, but is also great for a hat or a scarf. In this article and the video below I will explain how to do this stitch on a knitting loom.

Double rib stitch pattern
For the double rib stitch you can cast on with any cast on stitch you like. Cast on a multiple of 4 stitches. This means the number of stitches you cast on can be divided by the number 4. Once your knitwork is finished you can also cast off with any stitch you like.
In row one start knitting two knit stitches, then two purl stitches, two knit stitches and so on untill the end of the row. If you have cast on a multiple of four stitches you will end your first row with two purl stitches.
If you have ended your first row with two purl stitches, start the second row with two purl stitches again. Then two knit stitches, two purl stitches and so on. So on top of every knit stitch, you knit another knit stitch in the next row. For every purl stitch you knit a purl stitch in the next row.
Keep repeating this pattern on every row.
